Courses on Campus

Each semester, the Institute offers biblical studies courses for students and non-students who want to examine the biblical texts. Our classes range from the indepth study of a book from the Bible to an examination of the entire Old or New Testament to classes instructing students in Greek. Join us for these richly rewarding, engaging small classes in a warm and friendly atmosphere. Currently, there is no academic credit for courses offered through the Institute.

Winter/Spring 2008: Introduction to New Testament Greek 2

Teacher: Pete Lackey, MDiv, Yale Divinity School

For Christians, no body of literature is more important than the documents collected in the New Testament. As God's inspired testimony to the ministry and significance of Jesus, they have remained at the heart of Christian devotion, liturgy, mission, and thought for nearly two thousand years. These ancient texts, now read in hundreds of languages, were originally composed in Koine Greek. In this course, we will build upon the principles learned in Greek 1 (or equivalent course) as we continue to master the elements of this fascinating and picturesque language.

The course aims at further developing the student's ability to read and translate the New Testament with confidence and competence (and limited outside helps!).  Successful completion of the course will equip the student for Intermediate level work in the Greek New Testament. While the class presupposes some previous exposure to the Greek language, the Institute's Greek 1 course is NOT a prerequisite for registration.  Anyone seeking a structured refresher--or even an ambitious beginner--might greatly profit from the class. So come join us as we enhance our ability to love God with all our mind by learning to "cut a straight path" (2 Tim. 2:15) through His Word!

This course will meet for 15 sessions, starting Monday, February 4 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Location TBD.

The cost is $100.00 per student plus the price of the textbook.

For more information or to register, e-mail Pete or call 763-208-5652.

Winter/Spring 2008: Paul's Epistle to the Romans

Teacher: Bruce Olson, MDiv, Trinity Evangelical Divinity School

In the Book or Romans, Paul offers his fullest presentation of the Gospel. It is certainly crucial for defining God's gift of salvation, as well as facing the issues central to theological formulation through Church history.

The course will involve personal study followed by class discussion and presentation. Please join us for this important 10-session study, beginning January 14, 2008.

The first class will gather at the MacLaurin Institute office (Dinkydome: 1501 University Avenue SE, Suite 300, Minneapolis, MN 55414) at 6:30 p.m. on January 14. We will then decide on a convenient meeting place for the remaining nine sessions.

The registration is $100.00.

If you have any questions or want to register, e-mail Bruce Olson or phone him at 612-408-7110.
