Announcing the MacLaurin Insitute's Summer Seminar, "The Problem with the Modern Self: Imagining Personhood in Light of Limitations, Disability, and Suffering"
August 2, 2011; 7:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Abbey von Gohren
Abbey traces her family
roots straight back to the U where she was born at University
Hospital and her student ID was printed on her birth certificate. She
received her B.A. (2003, University of Minnesota) and M.A. (2006,
University of Minnesota) with a minor in Medieval Studies. After
three years of living abroad in Paris teaching English and tracking down
manuscripts in ancient libraries, Abbey returned to Minnesota to continue in
the Ph.D. program. Ever looking for ways to bring together the
scholarly worlds of the U.S. and France, she is establishing a dual
doctoral plan between the Sorbonne and her home insitution. Her
research interests include: medieval French lyric, the role of poetic
genres in creating literary community, theology, medieval translation
theory, and hagiography. Besides reading for a living, Abbey enjoys
the live music of the people she loves (most notably, Karl, her
husband), running marathons, and writing short stories.
